Mayor Villaraigosa: U.S. must raise the debt ceiling

Continuing his appeal for federal government investments for local projects, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said Sunday it would be "political malpractice" for Congress to fail to reach an agreement on raising the debt ceiling to balance the federal budget.

"Our No. 1 priority is jobs, jobs, jobs," Villaraigosa said during an appearance on CBS' "Face the Nation." "We have to put people back to work. We have to put up $40 billion we will get over the next 40 years that we want to see invested over the next 10 years. It doesn't cost the federal government much and we will pay it back."

But, he said, it will require Congress to agree to increase the debt limit to put the federal budget in balance.

Villaraigosa was the only mayor on the panel, which included three governors: Democrat Deval Patrick of Massachusetts, and Republicans John Kasich of Ohio and Scott Walker of Wisconsin. All four said it was important for the federal government to balance its budget, even if structural reforms are necessary.

Villaraigosa, who was in Aspen for the annual Ideas Festival, said he has had to make significant cuts over the past three years in balancing what is now a $6.9 billion budget.

"We have had to make significant reductions, but we have retained our core services in public safety," he said. "It has not been ideological."

Villaraigosa said he believes next year's elections will be difficult for all incumbents, unless they are able to

reach an agreement and begin improving the nation's economy.

"We are on the verge of jeopardizing the nation's whole credit because Democrats won't address the entitlements of Medicare and Social Security and Republicans don't want to talk about revenues and defense spending," he said. "The fact of the matter is we have to do all of it. If they can't balance the budget they should submit their resignations if they put us in default."

Kasich, who was in Congress in 1996 and was one of the architects of balancing the budget, said it was time for the two parties to begin to work together. He was part of the highly publicized golf foursome two weeks ago with President Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and Republican Speaker John Boehner. Kasich said the outing was an attempt to open dialogue.

"The purpose was to get Republicans and Democrats to begin to talk to one another," Kasich said. "We have lost the ability to talk to people."

Javier Colon Speaks on The Voice Victory

Even though Javier Colon won The Voice Wednesday night, it still hasn’t completely sunk in yet. The 34-year-old says he's still in disbelief.

“I was 100 percent in my mind, I was ready and prepared for Carson to say, ‘The winner of The Voice is Dia Frampton," he tells Celebuzz

"I was going to be okay with that because I absolutely love Dia ... She is amazing and deserved a win as much as we all did. We all have the same dreams and are trying to succeed in a very hard business."

Javier Colon Pic

"But in that moment, when he announced my name, it was unexpected. I am very, very thankful to those who voted for me. It was so close."

Below are a few excerpts from Celebuzz's talk with Javier:

On Adam Levine's reaction off the air: "He was emotional about me and my situation. He genuinely wanted me to win so badly. It wasn’t that he wanted his team to beat the others, it was because he wanted me to succeed."

"To see him get emotional meant a lot to me because it reaffirmed the fact that he really cares. We’re going to be friends for a very long time."

On Justin Bieber's last-minute support: "Adam had played basketball with Justin at one point and knew his manager Scooter Braun, so they both tweeted out to their millions of followers to vote for me."

"Not sure if it was Adam’s connection to Justin or what, but he decided to put his support behind me, and it really meant a lot."

On his upcoming album: "I’m hellbent on making sure this album is the real me that I’ve always wanted to have a chance to be, that unfortunately with my last label I wasn’t able to do. I want these songs to move people and that mean something to me - and hopefully mean something to those who listen to the album."

"It will have a soulful vibe but it’ll still be more pop than R&B."

On his family's response to the win: "I don’t think my daughters fully understand what this means for me and our family, but they were really excited."

"After the show, my oldest daughter, who is 3 1/2, ran up to me on the stage to give me a big hug. She said, ‘Daddy, we saw you win on TV!’ It was sweet."

Courtney Love is addicted to Etsy

Courtney Love at London Fashion Week.

Courtney Love just can't kick her latest addiction ? the handmade design site Etsy.

The discombobulated diva has a jones for expensive handmade items but has some trouble paying for them.

Love, who uses the handle "cherryforeverreturns" left a characteristically garbled note on her profile page warning vendors that her "checks are on a wierd [sic] sahcedule [sic] so bear with? plus my paypal account has had wierd stuff happen eg salaries and theft, so im very persnickity [sic] about it, but if I really like it, youll get paid."

The sometime singer has a bad history Etsy.

Love recently had to fork over $430,000 after she was sued for defamation by designer Dawn Simoranghir.

She had accused the designer, who sold clothing on Etsy of being an "a**wipe nasty lying hosebag thief," and "drug-pushing prostitute with a history of assault and battery."

Still, Love just can't keep away.

"My cpa hates the word 'etsy,' she declared on her buyer profile. "but theres vendors on here i adore nd i always discover new inspiring stuff."

Prince Albert & Charlene Wittstock Wed in Religious Ceremony

Prince Albert & Charlene Wittstock Wed in Religious Ceremony

Charlene Wittstock put fears that she was going to be a runaway bride to rest for good as she wed Prince Albert of Monaco in a religious ceremony on Saturday.

A day after their civil ceremony, the Rhodesian-born Olympian walked down the aisle on the arm of her father in a dazzling off-white silk Duchesse Giorgio Armani Privé dress with a long train and long veil made from off-white silk tulle. The dress was embellished with flowery embroidery, crafted with stones in gold shades, along with Swarovski crystals and mother of pearl teardrops in white and gold hues.

Albert was wearing the cream-colored summer uniform of the palace guards, as well as three medals, including the French Legion of Honor and the Order of the Grimaldi.

As he slipped the ring on his bride's finger, the prince winked and she giggled, looking relaxed. The two exchanged vows in French, which Wittstock studied intensively for a month at the Institut de Francais.

Because of the couple's large guest list, the ceremony took place in the courtyard of the prince's royal palace, rather than the cathedral where his parents Rainer III and Grace Kelly exchanged vows in 1956.

After the couple walked outside of the palace, they got into their Lexus hybrid and were driven to the tiny St. Devote chapel where, according to tradition, the princess leaves her wedding bouquet. It was here that Charlene lost her composure and began weeping briefly ? as if she were overcome by the heat and emotion.

"It was one of the most beautiful weddings I've ever seen," Gildo Pastor, 44, a longtime friend of Albert and a member of one of the most prominent families in Monaco told PEOPLE. "They have a wonderful future ahead of them."

Becoming a Princess

For the ceremony, Wittstock, 33, wore a dress designed by Giorgio Armani, although her father, Michael Wittstock, tells Paris-Match magazine that Charlene wasn't always fashion conscious.

"I've seen her turn into a princess there," he said of her time in Monaco. "Before, she was jogging all the time. Now, she's acquired a taste for fashion and become a beautiful woman."

Wittstock grew up in Zimbabwe and spent most of her childhood pursuing her Olympic swimming career and playing with animals. "We'd have weekends by the side of the river Gwai. There were wild animals, elephants, giraffes," says her father, a Johannesburg-based Xerox executive. "Charlene would go riding. She was a real tomboy. Always running everywhere; always covered with dust and dirt."

Sounds like she'll be right at home when the couple departs for their honeymoon in South Africa.
